Description

The Zimmer Versys 4556‑01 Femoral Head Extractor is an orthopedic extraction instrument designed to securely engage and remove the femoral head during hip arthroplasty and similar procedures.

The instrument consists of a T‑handle and solid shaft terminating in a coarse, corkscrew-style threaded tip. The threaded tip is manually advanced into the cancellous structure of the femoral head by applying rotational force through the handle. Once firmly engaged, the instrument enables the surgeon to apply controlled traction to extract the bone.

The extended length (~8 1/2 inches) provides additional reach and leverage compared to shorter versions, improving control during both insertion and extraction. The deep thread design ensures strong purchase, minimizing slippage during removal while maintaining predictable force application.
